Tutorial 02

screen shot from miro board research
Following the eLearning path i will learn tutorials in Twine which can allow the creation of a branching path narrative game which can be previewed in browser with HTML elements like images. it can also track items and hit points of the player and their actions through the story.

although im conflicted on what story to work on for the project and i have two options im thinking over.

the first a dnd style med-evil tavern with a diverse cast of characters to teach about diverse representation in media. or an adventure style game of a person with anxiety disorder and how that can make things harder for themselves strugeling with tasks people wouldnt expect

planning- topic of research

Designing for inclusion of LGBTQ+ in game design

Sexuality in gaming is a narrow enough topic with a lot of cultural relevance in the way we play games as they are often a vessel of escapism. so its significant to consider from a game design aspect. researching this topic should be achievable to reach with in the deadline and has a nice amount of research material and papers easily found through the collage library.

this topic can also provide many interesting comparisons between games that handle lgbtq representation well and those that don't. this topic and provide a guide to those who might not be from that community to design inclusive to them.

week 6 - Game Design Document (Games GDD)

A game design document seems to be like a bible for your specific project or game. something to look back on and to reflect on your vision. its also something useful to get new people caught up to speed to get working on the project faster. also for for a proposal to potential inverters looking to fund the game.

Week 5 - Cacthup and Unity

Screen shot from my unity set up after completing lesson 2.4

So after all the unity struggles and issues with not being able to catch up i've now been able to do some catch up with unity. Unity seems like it can actually be rather fun to make and create with however theses deadlines and stress of being behind feel more like frustrations as it feels like i'm wasting more time on mistakes than growing and learning from it, especially since some of the mistakes are spelling errors which are hard to notice with a learning difficulty like dyspraxia. The first unity tutorial I didn't even fully finish but i'm sure I spent over 2 hours on it due to having lost all my progress the first hour then getting past that on the second try. but i decided to skip over that section as the tutorials seem well put together and reference back to the older tutorials if you are stuck or missing a certain section.

while I thought I had caught up as far as week 5 reading week i had only just caught up on part of week 04s unity tutorials or at least i think i'm honestly not sure anymore i keep going to the site to figure out how far behind i am and i'm not sure if i'm going crazy with the website looping or if the reading week links redirect to week four or five or unity tutorial 4 in week five.

At Least from covering mechanics, dynamics and aesthetics I finally got an idea for a simple game I could create which would be inspired from a small game in a collection of games called the beginners guide. The game is a simple collection of games from this creator called Koda and is being lead as if on a tour guide of his work one of the games koda created was a simple walking and exploring messages meant to mimic messages left online while all of them were created by Koda and slowly reveal his mental state with the mechanics simple of walking and exploring and reading making you feel more personally connected to the simple story in the game.

Week 5 - Mechanic Dynamics and Aestetics

my first thoughts about this was that they where not as straight forward as I had just based only what definitions I already knew about mechanics and aesthetics. and while my what I knew about mechanically how systems worked in games I didn't realise aesthetic could also refer to emotional response and how this is a simplified method of chatagoising how the base mechanics or rules of game translate to the dynamic response the player has and the emotional response you have to the game. its why portal is technically an FPS due to it being a first person shooter and while it does have the base mechanics of point and shoot it does not have the aestic or vibes as call of duty or action based shooters. and how to identify the only changes you can make are based in the mechanics to tweak the players aesthetics

Week 3 - Game Ideas

Some of my most enjoyed games are silly and funny dating/friending simulators of either the ridiculous or silly variety like Hiveswap friend sim and Monster Prom, or even silly or wacky ones like Panzer Madels or hatoful boyfriend, and combining these elements with something such as rpg elements for random stat generation and stat modifiers that I would be able to create drawings for characters and creating and writing witty dialog seems fun!

Another idea would be a rythm base platformer where if you mess up the rythm platforming too much instead of a fail state the song would change and become slower and the faster you can keep up the faster the song would become.

an idea for a 2D game would be a match 3 game based on the periodic table of elements like matching 2 hydrogen to 1 oxygen to create water and so on and so forth.
